Susan Hickerson, MAEd, LPC, NCC, CRC - Susan has a 30-year history in group facilitation and psychiatry, including treatment of women and trauma. She has an LPC with the state of North Carolina and trained with Dr. Marsha Linehan, in the first DBT intensive in 1993. She has extensive experience and training in DBT, CBT, co-occurring disorders and general psychiatric disorders. Over the years, she has contributed to the development of programs for co-occurring disorders at Copestone Partial Hospitalization Program in Asheville, NC, and most recently as counselor for the women's extended care program at Pavillon.
Brian Coon, MA, CSAC  - Brian is Pavillon's Director of Clinical Program Services. He provides clinical and administrative supervision of the primary and extended care residential treatment programs.  He received both his undergraduate degree in psychology and his master's degree in community/clinical psychology from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.  He is a certified substance abuse counselor.  Brian  has over 20 years experience in addressing co-occurring chemical dependency and mental health disorders in roles ranging from clinician to clinical supervisor, and manager of multiple treatment programs.  He has also served as either guest lecturer or part-time faculty to undergraduate and graduate students in psychology, counseling, nursing and drug and alcohol counselor training programs.  His clinical background is in cognitive-behavioral psychology and evidence-based treatment of co-occurring disorders in various residential and outpatient modalities and levels of care.
Rachael Haynes-Wood, MA - Rachael is the Children's Program Coordinator for Pavillon. The program provides two types of prevention programs free of cost to children of patients or children in the community.With a degree in psychology and social sciences, she has worked with families and children for over eight years, teaching healthy coping and communication skills to children and adults alike. The guiding principle behind the program is Pavillon's belief that education for families and children about alcoholism and addiction is the key to substance abuse prevention for our future generations. Rachael's programs provide participants with realistic and healthy coping skills that will support them when faced with uncomfortable emotions and situations. Her programs foster an emotionally safe environment while having a lot of fun. Children are able to practice making healthy decisions for their future while having fun just being a kid.
Tom Northern, CSAC, CEAP - Tom is responsible for the coordination of the extended care programs at Pavillon. He has over 20 years experience in the roles of counselor, trainer, supervisor, coordinator and director of state licensed outpatient and inpatient treatment programs. He received his undergraduate degree in counseling psychology from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass. He is a certified substance abuse counselor in the state of Virginia and an internationally certified employee assistance professional. He specializes in experiential modalities and is a certified action methods director of psychodrama by The Center for Experiential Learning. Before coming to Pavillon in 2007, he served as an employee assistance coordinator for contracted companies such as NASA and International Paper. He’s facilitated many critical incident stress management debriefings and was deployed for the space shuttle disaster, and in the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy to debrief faculty and students. Additionally, he facilitated an aftercare group for impaired physicians spanning over ten years.
